Melvin
15.3HH Irish Gelding, 5yrs.I have never seen a horse with his colour before he is like a choclate colour. As soon as I saw this little chap, I liked him. I think he should make a nice all rounder and he moves very nice as well.
Seven weeks later
Melvin is Mr cool, he has a brilliant attitude to life and would make an absolutely fantastic mother/ daughter share. He does need more topline and preferbly I would like to keep him a little longer and strengthen him up more in the school he just goes on his forehand a little, when he has been out crosscountry schooling he was ridden in a snaffle but I think he would go better in something a little stronger but once he was schooled more on the flat he probably would go in a snaffle.Apart from that I really can't fault this horse he has a heart of gold. I recently took him out on a hack with my youngest daughter on her pony on lead rein and even though he is only five behaved impeccably. Emma took him cross country schooling recently (please watch the video below) and he jumped everything. He also went on hound exercise and was totally unfazed by seeing seventy nine horses and a pack of hounds. I do think he has been hunted in Ireland.
This is Melvin's Diary to show you what we have been doing with him to keep you up to date with everything.

Over the past few week's melvin has been hacked out, cantered across open fields and has also had a few different rider's ride him rangeing from a young teenager,Emma, myself and my sister who came over from Ireland for a holiday. He really is a gentleman and very mature for his age.If my sister was not so tied up in her job he would have been going back to Ireland with her.

Mandy my sister and her family have come over for a holiday. She thought it was quite amusing that she could pinch the ride on Melvin while she is here. I can't tell you in detail what she said to her husband but he is called Melvin as well so I will leave the rest of you older ones to work it out.(Ha Ha).Anyway let's get back to Melvin he has been hacking and he also went to his first show and took it all in his stride,Mandy (my sister) even pinched the ride again and went for a clear round the first time in twenty year's so well done Mandy and Melvin and also to Louise (my niece) who came third in her first jumping competition on Tom.

Emma has been hacking Melvin out most of the week. He had his first canter with Mandy (across open fields) placing him in front and then behind and he behaved impeccably. I have schooled him a couple of times this week, his canter is good and very comfortable as well, he just needs some regular schooling to help balance him.

As you can see already Melvin has got a fan club.Emma hacked him out today, I rode Tom on his offside as being in mum mode I feel it is my duty to ride on the outside when we are on such a busy main road no matter how chilled out the horse seems.Melvin really is a nice friendly horse he just needs some 'TLC' I think he has done just a job and needs those finishing touches to show him that he is appreciated.

Today I (Emma) hacked out Melvin, with my mum, for his first time. He was really calm and chilled out. Nothing phased him at all apart from lorries coming from behind him but he will soon get used to them and he seems to take things in his stride. I already love this horse!

Melvin had his physiotherapy assessment done today. Also, had a good report movement assessment was good, rein back good, tight circles was good, passive stretches was good, conformation is good, musclebalance Is that he is slightly overdeveloped on the underside of his neck but again with some work on the flat and some good old fashioned strapping will soon develop his topline.
